Drumcondra FC

Drumcondra is a north Dublin soccer football club that competes in the Leinster Senior League and the North Dublin Schoolboys/ Girls League. Formed in 1924 it is a club with a very rich history and played a very important role in the formative and earlier years of League of Ireland football. The rivalry between Drums and Shamrock Rovers in the 1950's is the stuff of Irish football history and folklore. Joe Grace was the first Drums player to be capped by Ireland when the club was still in the Leinster Senior League. He played for the Irish Free State in an international match against Italy in 1926. It was a friendly match but unfortunately the Irish lost 3-0 in Turin. Other former internationals to have played for Drumcondra include Con Martin, Alan Kelly, and Eoin Hand.

In the early 1970's Drumcondra merged with Home Farm but by the mid-1970's the Drumcondra name had disappeared. In 2008 two clubs that had laid claim to the legacy of the original Drums, Drumcondra AFC and Drumcondra Athletic, merged and thus Drumcondra FC re-emerged phoenix-like.
