Glasnevin is a suburb
of north Dublin 11. Nearby areas include Finglas,
Ballymun, Phibsboro, Drumcondra
and Whitehall. The local river is the Tolka and other focal points
include the National Botanic Gardens, the Irish Meteorological Service
offices, and Prospect Cemetery. Many historical Irish figures have
been buried in the cemetery including Daniel O'Connell, Charles
Stewart Parnell, Eamon de Velara, Maud Gonne MacBride, Countess
Markievicz, Michael Collins, Roger Casement amongst others. Well
known residents of Glasnevin in the past include author Jonathan
Swift, legendary TV and radio commentator Michael O'Hehir, and former
Dublin footballer Robbie Kelleher.
