Lucan is a suburb of
County Dublin. Lying to the west it is about 13K from the city centre.
The suburb is situated where the Rivers Liffey and Griffeen come
together. It is an attractive old town retains surrounded by a number
of relatively new housing developments. These new areas are to the
east from Lucan village towards the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre
and southeast towards the Clondalkin
area. To the west of Lucan is the Spa Hotel that overlooks the main
N4 dual carriageway. The hotel is named after the sulphur spa that
was discovered in the eighteenth century nearby on the banks of
the River Liffey. The famous Irish patriot, Patrick Sarsfield, was
created Earl of Lucan in 1691 by King James II. The local GAA club
is therefore know as Lucan Sarsfields.
