Tallaght is a suburb
of Dublin 24. It gets it's name from the Irish tamh leacht
which means plague burial place. Apparently an early Greek
invasion of Ireland by Parthalon culminated in the death of thousands
of the invaders from plague.
It has grown very rapidly
from rural beginnings into a bustling thriving south Dublin town
and suburb. Following many years of very low level of civic facilities
the area can now boast a major hospital, a number of schools, a
municipal library, a theatre, the Square Shopping Centre, a multiplex
cinema, and a selection of hotels, pubs and restaurants. The area
is served by the Luas and a number of public and private bus services.
In March 2009 Shamrock
Rovers took up residence in the Tallaght
Stadium.
Famous Irish footballers
from Tallaght include Robbie
Keane and Richard Dunne.
