1980 European Championship Qualifiers

In Group 1 of the 1980
European Championship qualifiers the Irish team was drawn with England,
Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Denmark. This was John
Giles' last qualification campaign as the Republic
of Ireland manager. The Irish finished a poor qualification campaign
in third place with three losses and just two victories over Bulgaria
and Denmark.
Twenty-seven different Irish players were
used in eight matches during the Euro 1980 qualifiers.
