Euro 2016 Qualifiers - Appearances
Made and Goal Scorers
Ireland's first match in
the Euro 2016 qualifiers was in
Tblisi against Georgia.
Martin O'Neill won his first competitive match as Republic
of Ireland manager 2-1. The only surprise in his selection was that
he gave Hull City's Stephen Quinn his competitive debut.
Irish Player Appearances in Euro 2016
Qualifiers
Despite the fact that Shay
Given had come out of international retirement Manager Martin O'Neill
retained Milwall's David Forde between the sticks against Georgia.
Interestingly, and partly due to injuries, manager O'Neill used 20 different
players in his first two group matches against Georgia and Gibraltar.
Ireland's
record goal scorer Robbie
Keane recorded his third international hat trick against Gibraltar
in the second qualifier at the Aviva
Stadium. (The capacity of the Aviva is 20,000 greater than the population
of the tiny British overseas territory.) The 7-0 victory over the Gibraltarians
was Ireland's largest victory in over 30 years.
On 14th October 2014 John
O'Shea Marked his 100th appearance in the green of the Republic of
Ireland with an injury time goal that earned an away point for Martin
O'Neill's side against world champions Germany.
The result of the group
came on the 8th October 2015 in the Aviva
Stadium when a goal from Shane Long gave Ireland a 1-0 win over the
World Champions, Germany. The Germans managed to take just a single point
from the Irish in the two group matches.
A defeat to Poland
in the final group match consigned Ireland to the third place play-off
matches. The following players have appeared for the Republic of Ireland
during the 2016 Euro qualification campaign matches and the play-off
matches against Bosnia
and Herzegovina. Ireland won the play-off tie by a 3-1 aggregate score
line.

Irish Goal Scorers During Euro 2016 Qualifiers
Aiden McGeady scored both
goals, including a 90th minute winner, in the opening match of the 2016
Euro qualifiers against Georgia.
Yet again veteran Robbie Keane was at the top of Ireland's goal scorers
list however for a change, he had to share top spot with Jonathan Walters.
