1962 World Cup Qualifiers - Appearances

In Group 8 of the 1962
World Cup qualifiers the Irish team was drawn in a small group with
Czechoslovakia and Scotland. For the first, and only time, Ireland failed
to win any points in a World Cup qualification group. The Irish team lost
all four matches and conceded 17 goals versus three scored. In the final
group match in Prague the Republic of Ireland team was thrashed 7-1 by
Czechoslovakia in October 1961.
