In Group 2 of the 1970
World Cup qualifiers the Irish team was drawn in a small group with
the former Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Denmark. Mick
Meagan the first ever Republic
of Ireland manager took charge for this qualification campaign. Ireland
lost every match except one - a 1-1 draw at
Dalymount Park with
Denmark. the Irish finished the qualifiers rooted to the bottom of the
table with just one point having shipped 14 goals and scored just three.
