Ireland recorded a very impressive win ratio, in excess of 70%, during 2001 when the majority of the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup were played. The only defeat that the Irish suffered in 2001 was in the Iran second leg playoff in Tehran - which Roy Keane missed.
