Roy Keane – Matches Played for Republic of Ireland

During an international career that spanned fourteen years Roy Keane won 67 international caps for the Republic of Ireland soccer team. He scored a total of nine goals for his country – a strike rate of 13.4%. Coincidentally Keane played on 29 occasions for both Jack Charlton and Mick McCarthy. He played in a further nine matches under Brian Kerr upon his return from two years of international exile following the infamous Saipan incident.

He first captained Ireland against Russia, under Mick McCarthy having been handed the arm band when Andy Townsend was substituted. Unfortunately Keane was sent off soon after for kicking a Russian player.

Roy Keane’s first goal for Ireland was in a 0-4 victory over Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in a Euro 1996 qualifier. His last goal for the Republic of Ireland was at Lansdowne Road in another 4-0 win, this time over Cyprus in a 2002 World Cup qualifier.

Keane won his last cap for Ireland at Lansdowne Road (now the Aviva Stadium) in a 0-1 defeat to France in a 2006 World Cup qualifier.

International Matches Played by Roy Keane Under Brian Kerr

Upon his return from the international soccer wilderness following the Saipan affair, Roy Keane played a total of nine matches with Brian Kerr as Irish soccer manager. He played in three friendly matches in the fifteen months that he played for Kerr.
