2010 Premier League Match Results – Airtricity League Series 1

The results for the first series of matches in the Airtricity League of Ireland Premier League are detailed below.

The Premier League kicked off with the current champions, Bohemians playing host to newly promoted Sporting Fingal at Dalymount Park. The game was decided by a hotly disputed penalty awarded to Bohs that was dispatched by Killian Brennan in the second half. It was a creditable performance by the Premier League newcomers and Fingal certainly did not allow the Phibsboro outfit have it all their own way.

Bray Wanderers suffered a heartbreaking home defeat on the opening night of the Airtricity League. A last minute goal by Gary Breen secured the three points for Dundalk.

In the third tie of the first Premier League series of matches Drogheda United welcomed UCD who had been promoted last season from the First Division. By virtue of goal difference the UCD team were top of the Airtricity

League after their 3-0 away victory at United Park. Three second half goals, two from Ciaran Kilduff, one from Greg Bolger, by the students earned the three points.

Galway United’s trip to Richmond Park this season did not yield the same 3-0 win as last year. St Patrick’s Athletic gained a very satisfying revenge victory. The west of Ireland outfit found themselves 1-0 down and minus midfield player Stephen O’Donnell after just 17 minutes. O’Donnell was booked after 14 minutes and just three minutes later he received his second yellow card. Alex Williams added the second goal for Pats in the 69th minute to give the Inchicore club a comfortable opening night win.

The last match in series 1 of the Airtricity Premier League involved the battle of the Rovers’. Sligo Rovers hosted Shamrock Rovers at the Showgrounds on Saturday 6th March 2010. Former Shamrock Rovers player, Eoin Doyle gave Sligo the lead after 22 minutes when he scored from close range. In the 66th minute the Dubliners’ dominance of possession was rewarded when Chambers converted a penalty that had been awarded for hand ball.
