2010 Premier League Match Results – Airtricity League Series 4

The results for the fourth series of matches in the Airtricity League of Ireland Premier League are detailed below.

Sporting Fingal continued their impressive start to the season with an exciting 4-1 victory over Drogheda United at the Morton Stadium in Santry. Drogheda are still looking for their first victory in the Airtricity Premier League.

The league’s leading goal scorer, Gary O’Neill, was the central character in an impressive performance by Fingal. O’Neill topped off an excellent individual display when he notched his fourth goal of the season with just over ten minutes left on the clock. This goal makes Gary O’Neill the current leading goal scorer in the Premier League.

Former Drogheda United player, Eamon Zayed , grabbed an early Sporting lead when he scored in just the fifth minute. The lead didn’t last long though when poor defending by the home team allowed Robbie Martin equalise after twelve minutes. Ronan Finn restored the Sporting Fingal lead in the 26th minute when he drove home from the edge of the penalty box.

Drogheda continued to threaten as both teams placed the emphasis on attack however there were no further goals in the first half. Fingal increased their lead to 3-1 within a couple of minutes of the restart. Following some impressive work on the flank, Byrne drove a low powerful cross into the Drogheda United box. The unfortunate Harris turned the ball into his own net leaving Drogheda keeper Skinner stranded.

Both teams had further unconverted chances with Gary O’Neill the main creator for Fingal. It was fitting that O’Neill finished the scoring on the night when he converted with just 12 minutes on the clock. This second victory in row moved Sporting into fourth position in the league table.
